A VISITING PROFESSOR FROM NIGERIA LECTURES TO STUDENTS AND UNDERGRADUATES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF STANDARDIZATION, CERTIFICATION AND METROLOGY OF THE TRANSPORT AND ENERGY FACULTY OF ENU

Since September of this year, visiting Professor, PhD Ahmed Shehu Avak from the American University of Nigeria has been lecturing undergraduates and students of the Department of Standardization, Certification and Metrology of ENU.

The visiting professor specializes in the field of quality management, technological entrepreneurship, innovation management. Ahmed Shehu Avak gives lectures to our students and undergraduates. He is also a regular participant in experience exchange programs and various scientific conferences.

For reference. The American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a private university in Yola, Adamawa in northeastern Nigeria that offers American-style higher education programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and vocational levels. Founded in 2004, it is the first American-style university in sub-Saharan Africa. AUN belongs to the National Universities Commission.

Professor Ahmed Shehu Avak: "I teach the courses "International Standards of Sustainable Development", "Commercialization of new technologies", "Innovations and innovative activity", "Qualimetry" for students and undergraduates of the educational programs "Standardization and Certification" and "Metrology". I believe that students and undergraduates of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University are friendly, disciplined, respectful, intelligent and take their academic activities very seriously. It is good to work with them in the classroom, because they easily assimilate the concepts being studied and make a positive contribution to the discussions in the classroom, bringing different points of view on all issues," says Ahmed Shehu Awak.

The professor believes that the disciplines he teaches "... are necessary for the formation and development of students' knowledge and skills on standardization of product quality, as part of solving the problem of creating and ensuring the quality of innovative products.

In light of the transformation into a research university, L.N. Gumilyov ENU aimed active entry into the world educational and scientific space and considers international cooperation and internationalization of activities as one of the most important areas of development.

The main directions for the development of international cooperation of the Department of Standardization, Certification and Metrology are:

* Interaction with foreign organizations, universities and research centers.

* Invitation of foreign scientists to give lectures and conduct practical classes for students.

* Academic mobility of students and teaching staff.

* Internship for university teachers in foreign universities and research centers.

* Work with foreign students.

* Organization of theoretical and practical training of students abroad.

* Conclusion of agreements and memorandums of cooperation with foreign universities and organizations.

An important characteristic of the expansion of international scientific and educational ties is the geography of attracting foreign teachers and external academic mobility.

The purpose of attracting foreign scientists is to deepen cooperation with leading research and educational centers and organizations of the world, which is a condition for increasing the competitiveness of graduates of the department.

It is gratifying to note that in the 2020-2021 academic year, two foreign professors give lectures for students of the department on educational programs 7M07550 - Metrology and 7M07533 - Standardization and certification.

Foreign students are an integral part of the modern education system in Kazakhstan, acting as conductors of the Kazakh language and traditions of Kazakh culture in their countries. The presence of foreign students at our department demonstrates the relevance of the department's educational programs. For more than 10 years, foreign students have been receiving education within the walls of the Department of Standardization, Certification and Metrology. Basically, the contingent of foreign students is made up of students from China, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, and they study under the bachelor's program.

The program of external academic mobility provides an opportunity for students of the department to gain invaluable international experience in the educational field, expand professional skills, gain experience in studying in international culture and get useful language practice.

Academic mobility is an excellent opportunity for students with good academic performance, knowledge of a foreign language and strong motivation to study during an academic semester at a partner university of ENU with the subsequent transfer of earned credits. Students and undergraduates annually undergo training and scientific internships under the academic mobility program at universities in Latvia, Poland, Belarus, Russia, and the Czech Republic.
