2-year graduate student of the department “Organization of transportation, traffic and operation of transport” underwent a research internship at a technical university in Riga

Undergraduate student of the scientific and pedagogical direction of the transport and energy faculty of the department "Organization of transportation, traffic and operation of transport" ENU named after L.N. Gumileva Bizhanov D.A. Between November 9 and November 18, 2019, together with undergraduates from the TTTiT Department, they completed a research internship at the Riga Technical University (Riga, Republic of Latvia). The internship took place at the invitation and under the direct supervision of the Director of the Transport Institute, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Marex Mezitis.

The purpose of this internship was: to study modern methods of organizing the production of passenger and freight transportation and their optimization; studying foreign experience in organizing transportation in transport and conducting scientific research in the field of organizing transportation in transport.

The beginning of the school week was marked by an introductory lecture on the Riga Technical University Natalia Muracheva, representative of the Department of Preparatory Courses of the RTU. She spoke in detail about the full-time programs, research internships, and discussed the organizational issues of the internship with the guys.

The scientific internship program was very dense and eventful. Graduate students attended lectures by leading professors of the Riga Technical University, as well as the leaders of large transport organization companies in Riga. A technical tour of the buildings and testing laboratory of the university was conducted.

During the internship, undergraduates got acquainted with the projects and advanced technologies developed by scientists of the Riga Technical University.

Under the guidance of Professor Marex Mezitis, undergraduates performed laboratory work in the university’s laboratory. The experience of using unmanned aerial vehicles in road construction and traffic management was studied.

The acquaintance with the RTU excursion on the campus of the Riga Technical University continued. Students of ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov got acquainted with the laboratories and research centers of the university, were able to ask leading professors questions, visited the Design Factory, where the student projects were presented.

In the afternoon, the guys visited the Riga City Council. An excursion and an introductory lecture on self-government were given by Maxim Tolstoy. The guys learned that the decisions of the Riga City Council are made by deputies in open meetings. Any resident can attend a meeting of the Riga City Council.

And in the waiting room of the mayor of Riga, there are two wonderful cats, Kuzya and Muris, who keep the atmosphere of goodwill.

The excursions were very interesting and informative, children were presented with souvenirs, everyone could take a picture in the chair of the mayor of Riga.

The next day's program was very busy. Pecherskaya Elena Rifovna, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, told the children about modern approaches to modeling. At the lecture such concepts as models and modeling were discussed, such types of models as (physical, mathematical, process) were analyzed.

Elena Rifovna spoke about the features of conceptual, qualitative and quantitative modeling, showed projects completed by students and graduates of the Department of Modeling and Simulation of Riga Technical University. Students studied automated control systems together with a professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences of the Institute of Railway Transport of Riga Technical University Marek Mezitis.

The classes discussed the problems of automation of production processes based on programmable controllers.

The practical work was organized with programmable logic controllers of the SIMATIC S7-200 family, which are capable of working in real time and can be used both for constructing local automation nodes and distributed data input-output systems.

The guys worked with various types of data, programmed the movement of the elevator under standard conditions and in a breakdown situation, and studied the possibilities of data visualization.

The continuation of the story about the internship of our children in Riga follows ....

Our students visited Latvenergo Laboratory, where they were shown the premises for robotics classes, where the guys completed a practical task - they soldered microchips imitating the work of a traffic light with their own hands.

The evening was dedicated to the Riga Russian Theater named after Mikhail Chekhov and the production of “Just Happiness”.

A huge interest among TEF students was caused by an excursion to the company Mass Portal, which develops, manufactures and sells high-definition 3D printers and other innovative equipment.

The guides were led by Imants Tredis, the leading manager of the company, he talked about the features of the work, showed equipment and products, invited the guys to the production room, demonstrated printers and dryers at work. All the guys received as a gift a small boat made on a 3D printer.

Automated control systems were studied by students, together with Professor Doctor of Technical Sciences of the Institute of Railway Transport of Riga Technical University Marek Mezitis.

2-year undergraduate students of the scientific and pedagogical direction of the department of transport and energy faculty of the department "Organization of transportation, movement and operation of transport" ENU named after L.N. Gumilev want to express great gratitude for the organization of this internship of the Transport Institute in the person of Director Marex Mezitis.

On weekends, undergraduates got acquainted with the main attractions of the city - the historical center of Riga. At the end of the ten-day internship, undergraduates were awarded certificates of their successful completion.
